Prose that Blows 9 - Here I Come to Save the Day

Wicked Game

Aether Price flew through the afternoon sky, her blue eyes tracing a route along the rooftops toward the building targeted in her police scanner’s latest dispatch. Already she could see the halo of emergency vehicles surrounding it, and with a swish of her arms, another gust of air filled her gold cape and propelled her swiftly onward.

She landed beside a flashing squad car, her blonde bobcut swishing in the breeze. The police captain ran over to greet her.

Vinylady vs. The Penetrator

Vinylady floated imposingly over the battered bad guy. “It should help you in court that the launch codes aren’t compromised,” she reassured him. Her pink and black day costume shone wetly in the noonday sun.

As federal agents dragged Captain Klepto off, however, he cackled, “No, but you will be!”

Eye of Helios, The

Alisa could have had the easy life. Almost as soon as she could walk, she’d been trained as an acrobat in her family’s circus. It was long, hard work for little reward, but she accepted it as her calling and put all her heart into it. Then, when she was 12, a lottery ticket bought on a whim made the family instant multi-millionaires. Almost overnight, her parents shut down the circus and retired to a life of luxury. But Alisa knew she’d never be happy with everything just handed to her on a platter, and after a few months of “retirement”, she ran away from home.

She adjusted her slightly-too-tight red and black horizontally-striped shirt. She lifted the next printout from the stack.

Dirigi-Belle’s Debut

An odd object floated gently over the city, drifting lazily on the warm summer breeze. But anyone who spotted it would’ve been too far away to notice that the balloon was oddly dimpled in five separate places and was connected to what looked like two more silver balloons sitting side by side.

Better Luck Next Time

The door to the evil laboratory was strong, but Captain Fabulous was stronger, wrenching the steel panels from their frame with no more difficulty than an ordinary person would have placing a small marble statue on a particularly high shelf.

“Freeze, ne’er-do-well!” he exclaimed triumphantly. “I am Captain Fabulous, champion of justice, leaping forward to fight crime without a moment’s hesitation!”
