Why not make a separate General Discussion forum for discussion about anything, even outside of inflation?

No offense to Vertigo, but I never really understand this sort of thing. No matter what forum I go to, whether it be D20, Anime, Comic books, whatecer, it always has an "Off-Topic" board. Why would you go to a specific board to be off topic?

If you go to a message board dedicated to Comic Books and you want to ask if anyone has seen a particular film you really can't break up the current converstation about the lastest issues that are out. I also doubt the Admins/Mods will smile upon people flooding the board with off topic threads that aren't about comics. It'll just make things difficult to sort through. So they just make a seperate board so people can post about movies there.

Why not just go to a forum devoted to movies? Thats what I mean. Why would you go to a forum for comic books to talk about a movie? ( Unless it was a comic book movie, or had something that otherwise was relevant to the board)

Well, because sometimes there just isn't a forum if someone feels like they need to rant or something to let off some steam. Also, I did put this in Site Issues, but I never got a response.

Fair enough. I'd not get much use out of it, but I can kind of see why you would want one, if this was the only or main forum you went too.

There's a forum called the 'XX'Lounge at a major musical instrument manufacturer's forum I've been at for years.
A fair bit of the discussion still revolves around related interests, plus it's been a good way for regulars at the site get to know/show their personalities better. People in the community of the particular interest often help others in all kinds of ways.
The "Lounge" moniker there is very apt since it became a place where members drop in for a bit of a chat, thus giving the whole site a far more congenial atmosphere, but also without an over-abundance of posts compared to the rest of the forums.

I agree. If I go to a video game forum, its to talk about video games. I never touch those off topic forums...well, never is exaggerating.
And here, no offense to any of you, but I want to talk inflation with you guys, not know your pet's name and what you had for lunch.
I hate to say this...but you realize this post belongs in the "site issues" area, right? The ironing is delicious! :)
