Ethan laughed at John as the boy messed up yet another throw, the football missing his outstretched fingers by at least a foot. His blonde bangs danced over his flashing green eyes as he stopped to pick up the gently spinning ball. “John, you expect to be trying out for the football team this year and you can’t even play a simple game of catch right?” Ethan grinned and rested a bit, hands on his knees as his smoothly muscled shoulders rose and fell with breathing.

"Hey!" laughed a funny sounding voice with a speech impediment. "She's coming around!"

"Why so she is!" chuckled another, more sultry sounding voice. "How's it going Kirsten?"

"My head..." she started, trying to rub it but her hands were tied behind her back. "Wha...?" she screamed. She opened her eyes but everything was all blurry. "Where am I?"

It had been a couple of weeks since Kamiko began her training with Tomoko-sensei. During this period, she refined her skills at a rapid and efficient rate that impressed Tomoko. By the end of the first week, Kamiko was able to not only inflate and deflate herself with hardly any mishaps, but she could do so in half the amount of time it took her on her first try. Tomoko-sensei would start off each day at six in the morning sharp. If Kamiko didn’t get up in time, Tomoko would just roll the groggy girl out of bed and have her quickly eat her plain breakfast of fried rice and miso soup.

Uncorking a bottle of wine isn't really that hard. But despite my usual bravado, I was bit nervous. And nervousness gives the faintest air of uncertainty to even the simplest of tasks. One way or another the chianti would wind up opened, so it shouldn't have cause me any anxiety. I should have been concerned about the glasses, and I was, but I was also concerned about everything else because of them. I shook my head as I chuckled to myself. Knowing the perils of the human condition did almost nothing to alleviate them. I finally freed the cork.
