New MK Kitana Fatality

Hi All,

Just saw this on youtube for the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC game and thought I would post it.

The kiss of death is not nearly as good as it has been in the past IMO, but thought someone may enjoy it.

Cheers.

Uh... I think you linked the wrong video.

ew wtf, she turns into like a hunchback or something. Man they screwed that new MK game all the hell up.

The game's not bad if you like the older MK games, like MKII, and you can just accept the unusual crossover. Gameplay's fun. But the inflatality there is...disappointing.

I'm gonna have to side with Inflate123 on this one. The kiss of death in Mortal Kombats Deadly Alliance and Deception: Unchained were much better in my opinion. Plus, MK vs DCU was really the runt of the litter for Mortal Kombat because it had no blood and gore and that's pretty MK's pride and joy, what its known for. I do like it that they included Slade/Deathstroke (I remember him from Teen Titans) but other than that the game was not that good for Mortal Kombat.

At least it means they haven't forgotten about it... perhaps it will be better in the next MK

Wow, I'm surprised that DC allowed their characters to be fatalited. Last article I read, DC was not too crazy about the idea of their memorable heros and villains being brutally killed my MK characters.

Overall, I think Midway is on their last breath with this game. If this one doesn't rack in the bucks, this more than likely will be their last in the series. Or I could be completely wrong, and they might try to strike a deal to make Marvel Vs. MK or Capcom Vs. MK for all I know.

caffiene

I think it looks more like an updated version of her "stretch" kiss of death from MK3.

Definitely disappointing.

...I meant that sarcastically.

God that was so stupid, I mean their faces didn't even touch when they kissed. Not that I care but I mean the "Inflatality" looked terrible. It looked like they didn't even try...

I'll say that the only things that MK really truly had going for it were the photo-like graphics and the ludicrous blood. Next gen technology has made the former obsolete and the latter is almost completely absent from this game.

On the whole, I just feel pretty saddened that DC have pretty much gotten a bum deal. Marvel lands on their feet with the Marvel vs Capcom series, Capcom being well known for making great fast paced fighters, while DC are left with a franchise that has long since outstayed its welcome and is now obsolete.

If you can't already tell, I'm not a big MK fan. I found the character designs bland, the fighting system repetitive and stiff and the story incomprehensible. I only really liked the bizarre fatalities, which they've fumbled the ball with here too (Ooh, Sonya broke someone's neck. Wow, the Joker shot someone. Big deal).

I wonder what if it is possible to make a fighting game with our inflation community avatars being the fighters, like TLink Vs. Stacky, BambiBlaze vs. MTaylor, or other characters that the community have.

Sounds good?

I'd roll with that...I'm trying to become a game designer myself.

Oh God, what does she turn into!? That's horrifying.

I would very much like to smack Midway on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper now.

We're the enforcers; the sorcerer's orphans, and we know why we fight!

No, Midway, that's a bad Midway!!

I dunno really...as much as I would LOVE the inflation of MK2, maybe they're going for a horrorfying gore angle - hey, that's what it's famous for :)

Haha, this could be true. Though I wonder how many game developers really know how much business a bit inflation like that would bring in. Madness. D:

Madness? ....oh crap, Sparta.

Hmm - well I can understand why inflation isn't included as much. As a gamer/potential designer and artist myself, there seems to be a vogue of ultra-realism...plus I would believe a few Average Joe's would be very "WTF" about it.

Agreed, why would Kitana let out a roar animation before making a simple peck on the cheek? It is like Godzilla letting out a roar before waving at a passing mother with child; the point everyone will go "WTF". If proper animation works, Kitana would just put a tiny bit of magic powder on his mask and land the pucker on the opponent's mouth, forcing him/her to breath in the powder. Chemical reaction occurs in the blood stream and boom, the inflation and burst fatality that even makes Inflate123 applaud. How come Kitana cannot inflate when she applied the powder on her mask? Simple, her mask was made of latex or something that can be coated with a liquid and powder poisons or chemicals, so Kitana can apply the poison or chemical on to her target and leave no evidence of her presence as if the target died of natural cause or by the food or drink he/she had. For the realism, the shoulder or another certain body part won't individually inflate on their own once Kitana made the Kiss of Death, the whole body where the skin are kinda baggy, like the chest, arms, legs, neck, pelvis, belly, and back all simultaneously inflates because of the blood stream that is the possible delivery system of the inflatality scene.

I made my insights work out with Kitana's case.

Well...I always saw Kitana as magic, not science. It's the MK universe...leave to its only devices, I guess. Her roar and method of the fatality is down to Midway artists - they don't need to research into their own characters. Sure, research into what would happen in the fatality method would help but...like a lot of people would say...it's just a game :P haha.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 was also eight very long years ago. It was certainly good, but...well, at least DC is out there swingin' in the modern era. DC has had so few really good games I'm thinking they probably had nothing to lose. Meanwhile, Spidey is milked annually and the Iron Man game was...let's be polite and say "underwhelming."

First time I played X-Men vs SF, I was like "What on earth do these two franchises have in common other than a desire to make money?" It didn't make sense but it was fun. I see MK vs DC as basically the same thing -- a cash-in that can either be fun or not. I'm having fun with it, like I had fun with MvC.

That gave me an idea. A fighting game in which every hit inflates a little the opponent until it reaches its limit. I've made a test: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y48ES5VG
Unzip it and open it. You'll see a bikini woman. Press X repeatedly to see how she is inflated a bit with every hit. Z to restart. ESC to quit program.
There's only a drawing for the inflating belly. The effect of inflation is made with a function that makes it bigger.

Interesting. This idea reminds me of a weapon in Turok: Rage Wars (N64, GBC - first-person shooter) called the Inflator. Wikipedia describes it like this:

Primary fire — Fully automatic, shoots energy bursts that slowly inflate the opponent, hurting them in the process.

Secondary fire — Single charged shot that inflates the opponent like a balloon until they violently explode.

I remember I used to play the game by myself with player two set as the female character Adon, and I would use the weapon to inflate her. The inflation had that choppy 3D appearance similar to MK Deadly Alliance, so it wasn't anything special but I thought I would mention it.

I downloaded it and couldn't open it or unzip it. It came out as just a blank, white file

That's probably because the file was from 2008. NECRO-POST!

You are not missing much anyway.

That test only contains a single image of a sketched woman.

The belly is a separated single drawing overlapping the woman, and it expands as you press X. But the belly is just "zoomed in" to give the effect of inflation.
