Inflation Audio Books

ok so i downloaded the catcf audio book and listened to the blueberry inflation part (of course) and it got me thinking could we make audio books for our favourite stories? i mean we'd have to get the writers permission, and a voice for reading it. i think that making stories audio would bring them more to life and make them more real, rather just sat there reading them with dead silence. well it was just a thought, let me know what you think :)

ps. got a new video on youtube for those of you who haven't seen it

Kurg

Cyndi Irresistible (http://members.aol.com/cyndirresistible/) used to offer a service sort of like that. From what Inflate123 has said though, she seems to be on a bit of a hiatus at the moment, so I don't know if she's taking commissions.

"Hiatus" is the Latin classification for a defunct home video format by Sony.

Mogman

That may be, klaeresource, but the common use for it is a short break or holiday from a certain activity.

klaeresource

Mogman, it was a pun on "Hi-8." Haven't you ever watched a Roadrunner cartoon?

I have, and I still have no idea what you're talking about.

I still want to have some experience with doing voice over work, I wouldn't have a problem helping out on that.

mosherballoon, thats the best fu***ng idea Ive seen anyone have in this board for a LONG time!!

This has to be done. It just has to. Many things get picked up and dropped in this community, but this should be followed through. Every inflation forum should be making a call to people who want to do voice work. First, the classics by Kane, Inflate and sickstar! Then, move on to Nanotech Pneumatics, Carnatic's stuff, Fukureru's stories too! It'd be awesome to have a file of a british woman with a hot accent reading Carnatic's Remotes series! Or that Judas Kiss story by dpmphoenix!

I have a degree in audio, which is what led me to work with Cyndi. I have built a small library of inflation sound effects that I have recorded here in my home studio that would probably be useful and will donate to the cause...but they're big files.

digdug-lee

Just a little question to darthclone19,
Where are most of those stories?
Im not too informed on where everybodys stuff is yet.
I havent yet seen some of those titles where Ive been on the net.
Thanks

mosherballoon

ok so, we got fairia offering to do the voice, we got Inflate with sound effects and we got darth with stories in mind. ok the ball is definitly rolling. ok know we need to figure out how its going to work. we decide on a story, fairia records it, sends it to inflate who adds sound effects and then puts it on the site?... that the only way i can think of, anyone know any easier ways?

Fairia
Fairia's picture

I can use what audio recording program I have (just like how I did my demos), but is it possible for me to send those .wav sound files by email?

Nanotech Pneumatics is one of the classics from the early days. Well, not so early. I think this site had four years already when I found it. The story library here still is, and will always be in my opinion, the best inflation library. Just get to the story archive. If you want to know what to read, send me a PM, and Ill maybe recommend you something judging from what you like :)

44K/48K .WAVs are definitely the best since we will want to keep the quality high from the start (beause it will go down when we compress it later), but they are large (though they .zip well). So we'd need to find a file dump somewhere, or an FTP site, where we could swap the files around, because email won't get it done.

If you're not using Audacity, do so; it's free and wonderful. I use SoundForge 6 but that's because I'm semi-pro. :)

ok i think we should vote for the 1st story, like darth said i think we should start with a classic inflation story, maybe a story by LVK as kinda like a tribute to him for making the site so long ago and giving us some great stories

darth_clone19
darth_clone19's picture

My favorites of LV would be The Brush, The Duel, Donna's New Look part 2, The Pageant (especially the end) The Ringmaster and Virtuality. Now, Ringmaster and The Duel aren't from the ol' days, but Ringmaster, being a poem, would be cute to do. The Duel is pretty epic in my opinion and would be good too.

I would vote, for starting this thing out, to do either Donna's New Look II, or Ringmaster. Which do you guys want?

The Ringmaster gets my vote.

mosherballoon

both stories are great, however if were to do donna's new look part 2, i feel it would only make sense to make part 1 1st. so i think the ringmaster should be the 1st and then donna's new look part 1 then part 2. how do you guys feel about that. and fairia can you get started? you and inflate should keep in contact he can give you tips on recording and sending the material to him.

darth_clone19
darth_clone19's picture

Ringmaster it is.

I said Donna 2 because the inflation there is better than in the first one to me, so I was biased to choose it lol But its logical to do both.

I'm willing to help out as well. I am an audio engineer and use Adobe Audition for my editing work.

I also think it would be good to have more than one person for voiceovers. Maybe a male voice for narration of 3rd-person perspective, and then fill in a female's voice as necessary? I'll go ahead and volunteer to be the male voice, as people tell me I have a radio voice...

KorgFal

I vote for Ringmaster.

ok doubleintegral, thats fine by me. i just wnat them to be done.

Just a thought on working on projects like this, I'd think whoever works on it should start with a shorter story or poem with dialogue to start with, that way all involved get an idea of who and how they work with what, and also less of a stress out for a first work. But that's my two cents and you can ignore me if you like, I'll just go back to lurking :P

darth_clone19

so, have you guys done anything?

I'm starting to wonder myself. I was asked to read the Ringmaster and I sent the files to Mosher, who was gonna try to send to Inflate 123.

Hopefully everything is alright. Sound production can take a while, from what I've seen. The fact that this whole project is really just a hobby for those involved means that finding the time to set aside for it can be troublesome for some people, especially if they already have busy lives. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

I ain't gotten nothin' yet, sorry. Last I asked was "What format are you recording them in, and what equipment are you recording them on?" I'm not sure how the files will get to me for post-production either. Many unanswered questions!

Why not send directly to Dan?

Try this
This program can read to you. I use it all the time. it was free when I got it but I don't know if it still is.

That program's great. Too bad the default female is a bit robotic. I would buy this and get cool voices to read me inflation stories haha Though the robot woman wasnt that bad ;)

This is great for when you write something and you need to hear it being read.

Alright, everyone. I know I'm bumping up a dead thread, but an IM buddy of mine, darkjester220, has graciously combined by audio recordings of "The Ringmaster" into one complete audio file. My question is, if it's an audio file, how can be hosted here? Can there be a link to it to know how many hits/downloads it had? Just not quite sure of how to download this and with any interest still for inflation audio books would be good.

Kurg

I'm actually rather glad you bumped this thread Faria. I was beginning to think this entire endeavour had fizzled out.

While I can't offer much help or advice as far as finding a place to host the file goes, I have recently gotten my hands on some fairly good audio-editing software, so I may be able to offer my help in editing together future projects, if need be.

Primarily Deviant Art.

The name's Noitalfin, http://noitalfin.deviantart.com/

Would be interesting to have it hosted on the site, as that would be the first such content to be hosted on it as far as I can remember!
As a strong advocate for expansion audio files, I say tear down this wall! or something...? Sounds like you're trying to avoid the rapidshare/temporary hosting as you want to track the downloads though, so unfortunately I can't offer any hosting advice :/

Why dont you post it on the yahoo groups? like pop-in, or that floatsyourboat one.

That's a good idea, actually. Heliumpongo started a Yahoo Group for inflation audio files a while back, and I think it's still active. Might be a good place to try uploading it, given how bereft of content it has been of late.

Here's the link, in case you're interested: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inflatophileaudiofiles/

How big is it? I don't really have the bandwidth to host large files here, so anything over a megabyte will probably require alternate hosting. My suggestions:

1) P2P network. The bodyinflation.org server is always running as an EDonkey network node, so I could host it that way. And hopefully others would help. I have a bittorrent tracker running as well. It's much more efficient, but people seem to have trouble setting up bittorrent. That, and bittorrent is most useful on really big files.

2) Use one of the various file hosting sites and post the download link here. The ones that come to mind are MediaFire, RapidShare and MegaUpload.

Not to be pushy or anything, but is there any development on the posting of this audio clip somewhere? I don't think I'm the only one watching this thread :P

I dropped the ball. I finally got the individual files but never got the time to do anything with them. Work's been interesting lately.

doubleintegral

Want to send them to me and see if I can do some damage?

FloatingHighUp

I'd love to help out in any way I can. :) With a female voice, I'm sure I could help out in some way. I'm pretty good at mixing audio as well, so.(Also I think An Evening With Holly should be read by a guy, just because the narrator is male :3)

I'd also like to help give this project a shot in the arm.  Sending you a PM.

Im a dyslect, i remember the audio books of when i was young ( as a kid it was to hard for me to read, even in my own langauge).

I had the audio book of Willy Wonka in dutch. But in it the "part" was really short, and the books had no sound effects. It was a shame the effects are missing. I had also a audiobook with ghost stories, and the sound effects made the story really alive. So i hoped the Wonka tale had it.

And boom goes the inflatee

Berry-DukeAlt

Jim Dale made the inflation scene in the third Harry Potter book seem magical. I would hire him in a heartbeat to read my stories for audiobooks

pongo

Based on Floatinghighup's post in June I recorded myself narrating "An Evening With Holly."  Pleased with the result, I passed it around to a few folks and got enough positive feedback and pointers for improvement that I'm keen to try some more projects.

Does anyone have further suggestions for stories that would work well with a male voice, please?

Is Soundcloud the best place to host such material?

Hey that's really cool! ^_^

No suggestion, no, just stating the fact ^_^

Just choose what you like and go on - works best imho ^_^

Thanks, Lopni

More projects are in progress.
