Body inflation movie: ZOOM

Not sure if anybody's caught the trailer for this kiddie version of X-Men, but the rotund young lad's superpower is that he's inflatable.

I know, I know, we all wish it was the hot high school chick instead, but I'm curious all the same. Movie stars Tim Allen with appearances by Courtney Cox and Chevy Chase. Opens Aug 11.

Apparently it's based on a book series, Zoom's Academy, aimed at grades 3 through 6...anybody know any background?

Trailer with inflatable scenes here:

Oh, and already, I've seen message board posts outside of our community going "Blowing up like a balloon...who the hell would want THAT as a power?"

Grrr! Let's all send in our complaints. They might still CGI a girl into the inflation scenario.

On the other hand there's always a case for equality in inflation, and it might shut the resident anti-inflation feminist at DA up.

Notice how with this, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Slither, Mood Boobs etc that Expansion in the mainstream seems to on the riiiiise! All we need now is for the Electric Blue video people to go for some CGI expanding.

Thanks for the early heads-up Dan. >>>(Now off-topic for non-music studio types)<<< I keep forgetting to send you the link for the highly recommended (free) Greenoak Crystal VST softsynth so I'll reciprocate here while I remember - http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/index.html

(Note to self: Must work on some psychadelic expansion theme music)

What is "Mood Boobs" you say? For anyone who doesn't know yet -

Buy this Breast Expansion DVD! The production is top-notch. Easily by far the best yet for a (for now) niche interest like ours, IMO. Acting, story, script, lighting, sound, music, direction etc etc is all absolutely top shelf. If it sells well there could be more.

Ive been actually getting really excited for this! Ive watched the trailer a gazillion times - partially because im so excited and also because im trying to figure out what hes inflating thats pushing Tim Allen up against the glass at the end (I think I see a big belly button! :) He looks like he gets pretty big! One of the reasons I was so excited was this is the first movie where its a superhero who has the power to inflate, which means theres going to be tons of scenes, however the main reason im excited is because its kind of a dream come true for me! Ever since I can remember ive wanted to be a superhero that could blow up really big as a superpower! Ive been fantasizing about it for my whole life - but it was great when I was 5 and I would play around with my friends as blimp boy and put balloons in my jammies.
Im so jealous of the kid who gets to play him, if only I was a bit younger I would do anything I could to get that part (I still would, lol!) I wish I could be that kid so bad! I just wish I could be in a movie like this where I would get to blow up super huge and knowing that millions of people around the world were watching me blow up like a huge blimp would be so embarassing - omg I love it! Moreso, I just wish I had that as superpower, anybody else looking forward to it?

I myself personally am quite outraged at the fact that they gave the inflation power thing to the little 10 year kid when theres a perfectly shaped hawt girl in the film who would be a perfect subject for those kind of powers!!

I mean come one shes like perfect!!

arrrggh!!

Damn you hollywood when will you learn!?!

He kinda sounds like bouncing boy, from the Legion of Super Heros..

Yeah, there's a livejournal that makes fun of everyone on Deviant Art (especially inflation artists), and they already pointed out Zoom, saying they're just waiting for the inflation fanart that's more than likely going to come from it. =/
Schmucks.

I was told to change my signature. So I did.

I don't understand why people feel the need to rip on other people so much online.

Probably cause' they lack kahones in real life. Schmucks is right.

Mogman

When it comes to things like this you simply take it with a pinch of salt. Don't take it so personally, I mean...i've not read this live journal, but if they don't just "pick on" inflation artists then it seems like all they are doing is a social commentary, heck you must admit that we do churn out fanart as soon as we find a new movie/cartoon/show that involves inflation. Heck, I bet you that there will be inflation fan art coming from this, not that i'm moaning, we might get some good art. Just remember, you can't please everyone in life n_n

I see it more as yin and yang, really. If people on the Internet are going to draw and write works involving inflating or expanding people because they think it's cool and/or gets them hot, then there are going to be people who feel compelled to bash it. To me it's really simple, so the response is simple: live and let live. It's a big Internet, after all, and it's a bit hard to find this stuff if you aren't actively looking for it.

This has been Restating the Obvious, brought to you by the Redundant Department of Redundancy.

Anyway, do we really need another doofy kid superhero flick? Moreover when the movie's message board users have apparently never heard of Plastic Man, Bouncing Boy, or Mr. Fantastic?

Mogman

Yeah, it seems like holywood is desperate to come up with original ideas, heck when I saw they had made "Sharkboy and Lavagirl" I lost all faith in holywood (note I no longer use captial H for their name).

Anywho I agree with Hajile, live and let live, if anything DA protects us more than harms us...I have searched and found more than one instance of people complaining how DA dessimates them whenever they try to touch us...

Quote...
"...Looks like the old rumor mill is running true -- you screw with inflation artists on DA, you get fucked with a rusty pitchfork..."

Starshine

Aww.. the little inflating boy is sweet. Though yeah, I mean c'mon, they coulda used the older girl and go against movie conventions completely. But nooo..

But still! Maybe this this type of technology, they'll be able to make more films with inflation in in the future.. :)

Actually, that girl seems annoying..

That Mood Boobs thing is amazing. The BE guys finally have something that awesome. Too bad for us though.

I wont be caught dead seeing Zoom though. I hate that type of movie.

Inflation wont become a "thing". If they knew we get turned on by it, they probably take it out of the movie lol. I think that the concept of expansion seems to be universal, and normal. We fetishists exaggerate it, but thats natural too. I think sometimes we want to kid ourselves and say this is weird and unique...maybe its not. These things are natural to all of us, and those that see it as repulsive are only thinking it is because of social standards.

And since it happens a lot on cartoons, and CGI is making movies so friggin cartoony (whether thats good or bad is another issue), it seems logical to me. Or maybe movie producers are finding this site...AHHHH!!!!

The movie looks lame, The effects are not well done and goofy, and the fetish interest in 90% of us has been put into the body of a 10 year old boy. Not gonna hold ANY interest for me, and somehow I seriously doubt we're gonna see that much "fan-art" unless it involves one of the other supposivly "hot" girls in the movie mysteriously aquiring his ability.

I think it's funny how everyone freaks out and thinks that when an inflation scene appears in a movie it HAS to cater to our tastes. Since no one else in the world (at least not holding any position of power like filmmaker) has our fetish, it's just a funny "gag" and nothing more.

Frankly I don't want inflation to become main-stream and a common thing on TV or Movies. The few jems here and there are enough to satisfy me. If it becomes too popular, we're gonna be flooded with pesky people who THINK they are into the fetish, when in fact they aren't and are just being leeches. I'm emberessed to talk about my fetish in real life, especially to my girlfriend, and even seeing a scene like that by ACIDENT with her makes it even more akward. I'd rather it not be popular and i'm not gonna see that movie.

Zepylin

While this is interesting, I won't be seeing this movie unless someone else has rented it and offers (Even then I might turn it down). As much as I'm a "take what I can get" person, from the looks of things the inflation involved isn't going to be my preference, which is no surprise.

And I agree about the fetish not becoming mainstream too. I do tend to be open about it on other forums (at least on one other forum, not very often in other places) where I know they'll at least have the decency to let it be, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to let it loose outside the internet. I've not told anyone in real life about it (if you count one person I may one day meet in real life but I still first talked to over the net) and I'm not sure if I really wish to... I might to the right person, but I won't let it be a really open thing.

So considering the amount of times inflation has appeared outside the fetish (cartoons etc.) I don't think this is cause for "OH NO WHAT IF THEY DISCOVERED THE SITE!?!?!?!" I'll admit, if I was in the position to invent a mainstream character, I might try and slip inflation in there, but do my best to try not to gear it entirely towards the fetish so that it doesn't arouse mass suspicion...

I was joking about producers finding the site. I was being sarcastic.

But yes, I think Ive mentioned it before in here: it would be a nightmare if this got mainstream. Seeing Harry Potter 3 and Willy Wonka with my family was very awkward with those scenes. I felt like I wanted to disappear.

yeah, it's strange, I felt awkward when I saw Willy Wonka in the cinema with my family...it's like we expect everyone to suddenly turn around and look at us, knowing that we like inflation :\ atleast that's how I feel in situations like that.

darth_clone19
darth_clone19's picture

Thats exactly how I feel. Im afraid somehow they are going to know. I start acting like Im not interested and I may throw them off. Its pretty pathetic lol

I must confess that I'm as secretive about my fetish as most here appear to be, but what's really the harm if your loved ones find out? It wouldn't be very loving if they accepted you less due to some inexplicable, utterly harmless sexual quirk, now would it?

To put it even more simply... I'm as shy as you guys, but until major news outlets do stories about insane, sex-crazed expansionists chasing women with bicycle pump in hand, there is no worst case scenario - just an unwanted one.

LOL

Im not afraid Ill be thrown out of the house. The thing is that something so personal, and so stupid as most people would think...I dont want them to know. Its weird, and embarrasing to like this sort of thing. If told to my family I mean. I wouldnt be embarrassed telling a girlfriend. Nervous yes, but not necessarily ashamed.

Besides, noone tells their mom ANY fetish they have anyway.
