Would IRC work? There's probably a way to hide everyone's IP from people that use the /who comment.

Would that really matter, though?... well, unless you're trying very hard to hide your location/identity.

While I kinda like the idea, i'm afraid that the people on there will only RP or try to use it similarly for that. I can't speak for everyone though, I'm just saying that's what I think about it. I would like to see it though.
I was looking into instant messenger options for the site a few years back, but I couldn't find anything that I liked. If there's demand for messaging features beyond what's provided by private messages, I can take another look at it.
